The 100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in Washington state were honored at this sold out flagship event. To make the list, companies must have recorded revenue of at least $500,000 in 2011 and demonstrated revenue growth through 2013. The firms are privately held during the reporting period and headquartered in Washington state. They cannot be subsidiaries of other companies. Also, the chief executive officer or chief financial officer must submit in writing — and personally vouch for — company revenues for the past three years.

Akvelon, Inc. is thrilled to announce that our software engineers, together with Apache Cordova and Microsoft, have brought the support of Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 apps to the Apache Cordova framework, a highly popular platform for building native mobile applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

The Apache Cordova 3.6 release has been inspired by the idea of Building universal Windows apps. It introduces a new unified ‘windows’ platform to build apps targeting Windows 8.0, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. Note, Windows Phone 8.0 still remains as a separate ‘wp8’ platform due to different implementation.

Open source SDK provides access to a new set of Office 365 OData based services for Exchange Mail, Contact, Calendar as well as Sharepoint files and lists. Except for a small authentication wrapper, Exchange SDK code is automatically generated based on OData metadata and is exposed via Java Proxy (reflection) classes that provide JPA in a simple way to interact with a structured object model.

An infrastructure has been developed to generate SDKs based on any OData V4 compliant service metadata. SDK has been released to Maven Central repository. SDK and demo application, showcasing the SDK, have been presented at the SPC 2014 conference. Through the project, code contributions were made to ODataJClient OSS project and ADAL (Azure Active Directory Authentication Layer) OSS project. The contributed code has been moved to Apache Olingo project which has evolved from incubation, to a top level Apache project in a little over a month.

Akvelon engineering team has been working on Android Office 365 SDK in collaboration with the MS Open Tech team and we are happy to see it is finally released.

Akvelon, Inc. recently became one of only a select few companies to participate in The Microsoft  Supplier Program (MSP). The MSP is designed to make it quick and easy for Microsoft employees to identify and work with a pre-qualified, select group of suppliers. Microsoft researched and evaluated thousands of companies, interviewed their internal buyers to understand their needs, and analyzed performance data to select only the best companies for MSP.  As a result, over 80% of Microsoft’s annual spend is with MSP suppliers and MSP suppliers account for only 10% of Microsoft’s total active supplier population.

Akvelon is very excited to work with Microsoft on this and other initiatives and looks forward to being a primary reason for increasing the lion’s share of contribution from suppliers.

Akvelon partnered with T-Mobile to provide an end-to-end mobile testing solution that is fast and flexible. Akvelon’s team designs a rigorous testing schedule for each new device or application, using a combination of manual and automated testing to maximize the team’s ability to find and report bugs, while also meeting tight release deadlines. Akvelon’s process includes:

• Testing of new versions of applications as they release across base-line devices.

Overlake Hospital Medical Center is a 337-bed, nonprofit regional medical center offering a full range of advanced medical services to the Puget Sound Region. Led by a volunteer Board of Directors, Overlake employs nearly 2,400 people and has more than 1,000 active and courtesy physicians on staff.

Overlake Hospital was searching for a solution that would allow it to re-organize and improve its business processes through electronic documentation. The solution had to be flexible enough to serve as a platform for anticipated custom applications, which may involve workflows, document approval, and information tracking. Overlake was also looking to re-organize its process of provisioning new users into discrete medical applications used by the staff.

 

Solution

Akvelon offered Overlake consulting services to plan a SharePoint 2010 deployment throughout its organization. The services started by determining the necessary architecture to satisfy scalability and reliability requirements and for deployment.

Many organizations are faced with real obstacles when attempting to organize available information conveniently. Akvelon created clear design principles and information organization through the implementation of SharePoint. We fine-tuned crawling and search capabilities in a way that maximized search effectiveness and addressed security and access restrictions to appropriate users.

In addition, Akvelon performed an analysis of the user access management process. This involved interviewing key people and backtracking various details and edge cases throughout the workflows. Akvelon established a proposal to build a custom Provisioning Application for SharePoint that would improve the provisioning, user management, and deprovisioning processes, allowing electronic record keeping for user accounts. Overall, the solution would result in an improved HIPAA compliance.

Security risk assessment of the IT environment at Overlake has been performed as part of the project. The result was a number of recommendations, which were put forth to improve compliance with relevant regulations and to help follow recent regulatory changes.

Microsoft Open Technologies, Inc. is a subsidiary of Microsoft that is focused on engaging with open-source communities and developing stronger relationships with those communities. The company has been heavily involved with numerous business groups. It has also been a part of evolving the standards initiatives across Microsoft, such as W3C’s HTML5 and many different cloud standards.

Business Need

Apache Cordova is a highly popular platform for building native mobile applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Apache Cordova graduated in October 2012 as a top level project within the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). As part of our collaboration with Microsoft Open Technologies, Inc, our developers were asked to contribute to Apache Cordova by adding support for Windows Phone 7 (Mango) and Windows Phone 8 (Apollo).

To meet increasing demand, Akvelon has created CRM Mobile Express to perform on any web browser and/or mobile platform.

CRM Mobile Express is a web application specifically designed to run on devices with low screen resolution and on web browsers with limited HTML or ECMA Script/JavaScript support.

Fidelity National Information Services is a leading financial service provider located in the United States. It provides major financial institutions with powerful and reliable data processing and analysis tools. Akvelon became a technology partner, providing useful resources for executing critical end-to-end projects.

Business Need

The client was searching for a partner to improve its software suite of mortgage-related applications, StratTree™, and StratQ™. These tools were often deployed on remote sites, requiring an automated data transfer to the head office. The client effectively established a partnership with Akvelon to resolve such issues.

Solution

To address the client’s request, Akvelon developed a proprietary method of communication, creating a feedback mechanism that simplifies software maintenance and updates.

Akvelon designed and implemented new components to the existing system, including:
